A FUN DAY FOR RIDERS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES! WESTERN AND ENGLISH RIDERS WELCOME!
Registration opens 7am
Morning Division: Walk/Trot/Lead
Afternoon Division: Walk/Trot/Jog or Walk/Trot/Canter
BBQ lunch available - all proceeds benefit PARD Therapeutic Riding
Games:
  • Barrel Race: Riders cross start line and ride a clover leaf pattern around 3 barrels, returning to the start line. Fastest time wins.
  • Carrot Race: Riders line up at one end of the arena. They must walk/trot their horses to the opposite end where they get off and, without using hands, “encourage” their horses to eat a carrot(s) on the ground. Once eaten, the riders remain dismounted and run with their horses in hand back to the start line. First horse/rider to cross the line wins.
  • Fill-the-Pitcher: Race is run in teams as a relay. Riders stay mounted and line up at the start line. One at a time, a rider must scoop and fill a cup with water from a pail. Rider then carries the cup to the opposite end of the arena to a pitcher and dumps the water from it into the pitcher before riding back to the start line. Second rider then starts his/her turn. Riders continue in this fashion until the pitcher has been filled to a prescribed level. Fastest time wins.
  • Sack Race: Riders are mounted and line up at start line. Riders then trot their horses to the opposite end towards a volunteer who is holding a grain sack for them. Riders dismount and pass their horse to the volunteer, who passes the rider a sack. Riders get into their sacks and jump their way back to the start line. Horses remain with the volunteer. First rider across the start line wins.
  • Pole Bending: Rider crosses start line and rides straight down the length of the arena beside a series of poles. Riders turn around the last pole and proceed back towards the start line by weaving all the poles. After weaving the final pole, the rider must turn again and weave the poles back towards the opposite end of the arena. At the last pole, the rider turns and then rides straight back to the start line. Fastest time wins. A 5 sec penalty may apply for
    any pole knocked over.
  • Keyhole: Riders cross the start line and ride in a straight line towards 2 barrels positioned at the opposite end of the arena. Riders must ride between the 2 barrels, turn around (direction of their choice) and ride back to the start line. Fastest time wins.
  • Costume (mixed division): judges use their own criteria to determine winners. Usually creativity and effort weigh heavily.
ONLY $10 PER CLASS. PLEANTY OF TRAILER PARKING AVAILABLE. EMAIL [email protected] FOR MORE INFO

2024 Santa Claus Parade

Thank you to everyone who came out to help with the 2024 Santa Claus Parade in Douro-Dummer! We had a great time with our friends at Wendon Hills Equestrian Centre and even enjoyed the first white flakes of the season to get us into the spirit!

PARD's Charitable Registration No. 11909 1759 RR0001

PARD Therapeutic Riding operates on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg, covered by the Williams Treaties. We honour the enduring presence of the Anishinaabeg, including Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, and Alderville First Nation, and recognize the stewardship of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
We are grateful for the opportunity to gather, learn, and ride on this land. As an organization dedicated to accessibility, wellness, and community, we recognize that reconciliation requires more than words. We commit to ongoing learning, listening to Indigenous voices, and aligning our values of inclusion and care with the principles of truth and reconciliation.
